Fuel prices moved higher again over the last week, putting more pressure on RV travel budgets. There may be an early sign of relief, though, after oil prices fell sharply Monday as diplomatic developments appeared to ease some immediate fears around the Iran conflict.

According to AAA, the national average for regular gasoline stood at $3.956 per gallon on Monday, March 23. That is up from $3.718 a week ago and $2.938 a month ago. Diesel climbed to $5.285 per gallon nationally, up from $4.988 last week and $3.712 a month ago.

Gasoline and Diesel Both Moved Higher

The latest jump is notable for all drivers, but especially for RVers. Gas-powered tow vehicles are now approaching a $4 national average, while diesel prices have risen even faster. That is a bigger concern for many RV owners towing heavier rigs or traveling long distances in diesel pickups and motorhomes.

Why Oil Prices Suddenly Fell

Oil prices dropped Monday after President Donald Trump said the U.S. would delay possible strikes on Iranian power infrastructure for five days while diplomacy continues. Iran denied formal talks were taking place, which means the situation remains fluid.

Markets responded anyway. Brent crude fell about 10% on the news, a sign that traders saw at least some chance of near-term de-escalation.

Why Pump Prices May Stay High for Now

Even with oil pulling back, fuel prices may take time to follow. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global shipping route, and disruptions there have already strained energy markets. About one-fifth of the world’s oil moves through that corridor, and tanker delays have added to the pressure.

That means RVers may not see immediate relief at the pump, even if crude prices continue to soften in the short term.

The Bottom Line for RV Travel

There are some signs that oil markets may be settling down, but fuel prices remain high for now. If tensions continue to ease, that could eventually bring some relief. But at the moment, RV travelers should still expect elevated fuel costs compared with just a month ago.
