Ember RV may be getting ready to make a big move.
In an interview on the RVing with Joe podcast, founders Ashley Bontrager and Chris Barth said the company’s next major project is expected to be a fifth wheel. They did not share many details, but the comment gives RVers an early idea of where the brand may be headed next.
That would be a notable step for Ember, and one RV Miles has been hoping they’d dip their toes in for a while now. Ember has built its reputation by doing a few things differently, and a fifth wheel would be a real test of how that approach translates to a larger product.
Ember Hints at What’s Coming Next
The fifth wheel comment came during a broader conversation about Ember’s story and the way the company has tried to do things differently.
Bontrager and Barth talked about building Ember as an independent RV company in Elkhart, while focusing on products that feel more thought through than typical lightweight towables. Over the last few years, Ember has built a following among RVers who want a trailer that feels a little more capable and a little less conventional.
Now, it sounds like the company may be looking at a larger segment.
Suspension Has Been Part of Ember’s Identity
One of the bigger points in the interview was Ember’s early work with CURT on independent suspension.
That helped put more attention on suspension in the RV world at a time when more buyers were starting to look beyond floorplans and finishes. Ride quality, durability, and how a trailer handles on rougher roads have become a bigger part of the conversation, and Ember has been one of the brands most closely tied to that shift.
That does not mean Ember started the trend by itself, but the company has clearly been part of it.
Why RVers May Want to Watch This
Ember is still a relatively young company, but it has already carved out a distinct place in the towable market.
If it brings that same focus on suspension, usability, and owner feedback to a fifth wheel, it could end up being one of the more interesting new entries in the segment over the next couple of years. For now, though, we’ll be waiting for that next update on when we can expect to see an Ember Fifth Wheel in the wild.
