You never quite know what might show up at your campsite.
A woman living in an RV park in British Columbia got an unexpected surprise after hearing strange noises coming from underneath her rig. At first, she thought it was probably raccoons, which are common in the area. But before she could go outside to check, the park manager sent her a message warning her to stay inside because a cougar had been spotted crawling underneath her RV.
According to the reporting, a neighbor was able to snap a photo of the animal, which appeared fairly relaxed as it spent a little time under the rig before eventually moving on. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the cougar reportedly has not returned to the park.
A reminder that wildlife can show up anywhere
This is one of those stories that sounds a little funny after the fact, but it is also a reminder that even established RV parks and campgrounds are still part of wildlife country.
RVers often think about bears, raccoons, or coyotes when it comes to animals around camp. But in parts of western Canada and the western U.S., larger predators can occasionally show up too. Most wildlife encounters end without incident, but they are still a good reason to stay aware of your surroundings.
Think twice before investigating that noise
For RVers, the takeaway here is pretty simple: if you hear strange noises around or under your rig, especially at night, it is worth taking a moment before stepping outside to investigate.
Keeping pets close, paying attention after dark, and giving wildlife plenty of space are always smart habits in camp. In this case, staying inside turned out to be the right call.
And yes, it is also a reminder that if something sounds unusual under your RV, it may be best not to go poking around in the dark.
