Regarding composting:
US Forest Service: “Biodegradable trash, such as orange peels, apple cores, coffee grounds and onion skins, must be packed out” even “food particles must be strained out” of dishwater “and secured the same as trash.”
Leave No Trace lists the idea that you can “leave fruit peels and crumbs for the wildlife” as one of the biggest myths on public lands.
