For many RVers, this is the time of year to de–winterize the rig, freshen things up, and get ready for those spring and summer camping road trips or National Park adventures.

But while most people focus on water lines, batteries, and cleaning, one important safety item often gets overlooked:

your smoke detector.

Don’t Forget Your Smoke Detector When You De–Winterize Your RV

If your RV spent the winter in storage, there’s a good chance the battery in your smoke detector died months ago.

It may have chirped for a while before finally going silent, leaving you with no easy way to know it’s no longer working.

That’s why one of the simplest and most important things you can do when de–winterizing your RV is check every safety detector in the rig.

Make sure you test and replace batteries in your:

  • smoke detector
  • carbon monoxide detector
  • propane detector, if battery-powered

It only takes a few minutes, but it’s one of those small tasks that can make a big difference when it comes to keeping you and your family safe at the campground.

When you’re focused on getting back on the road, it’s easy to overlook the devices meant to protect you once you get there. Don’t skip them.
