The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has decided to close all Illinois state parks, including campgrounds, due to the coronavirus thread.
“Effective immediately, all IDNR-owned properties are closed to the public to help stem the spread of #COVID19,” the department said on Twitter. “All events on state property are cancelled; patrons are encouraged to call IDNR’s Parks administrative line M-F at 217-782-6752 with questions.”
No end date for the closure has been set. Illinois also announced today that all bars and restaurants in the state must close.
Illinois joins New Mexico and Massachusets, closing all state park campgrounds. A small number of individual state parks in Pennsylvania and Louisiana have closed, along with some county and local parks in Florida and California.
