Diesel Prices Are Now Within Reach of the 2022 Record
Fuel prices continued rising over the past week, though the pace of those increases appears to be easing compared with the previous month.
According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline reached $4.14 on April 7, up from $4.02 a week earlier. Diesel climbed to $5.65 a gallon, up from $5.45 a week ago.
That means diesel is now just about 17 cents below its all-time AAA record of $5.816, set on June 19, 2022. Regular gasoline remains below its own record of $5.016, which AAA says was set on June 14, 2022.

The recent run-up follows several weeks of sharp increases tied to higher crude oil prices and growing concern over instability in the Middle East. Reuters has reported that oil markets have been reacting to the conflict involving Iran, which has added pressure to fuel prices in the U.S.
Even so, this past weekโs increase was smaller than the jumps seen over the prior four weeks, which could be an early sign that the market is settling somewhat, at least for now. That does not mean relief is here yet, especially for RVers and truck owners who rely on diesel.
For travelers planning spring and summer trips, diesel remains the bigger concern. A few more weeks of increases could push it close to, or past, the record set in 2022. AAAโs daily tracker remains one of the easiest ways to watch prices in real time before heading out.
