Some Buc-ee’s customers are noticing a change when they pull up to the pump.
At some Buc-ee’s travel centers, drivers using credit or debit cards are now required to pay directly at the pump, while only customers paying with cash can prepay for fuel inside the store.
Buc-ee’s has not publicly explained the policy change, but it’s already sparking discussion among travelers online.
Some customers say they prefer paying inside the store, especially since Buc-ee’s is known for its massive selection of snacks, drinks, and fresh food. Many travelers are already heading inside anyway, and paying for fuel at the register used to be a convenient way to bundle purchases.

Others say they avoid paying at the pump because of concerns about card skimmers, or because gas stations often place a temporary hold on credit or debit cards that can last several days.
But some customers believe the change is likely about keeping fuel traffic moving.
Buc-ee’s locations are famous for their enormous travel centers and long lines inside the store. When drivers leave their vehicles at the pump while waiting to pay inside, it can tie up fueling spots and slow down traffic — something that can become a problem during busy travel weekends.
Requiring card users to pay at the pump could help speed up the fueling process and keep pumps available for other drivers.
For now, the change appears to be limited to some Buc-ee’s locations, and it’s not yet clear whether the policy will expand across the company’s rapidly growing network of travel centers.
