Mobile, Alabama is a wonderful destination for a week or a weekend. On this episode, we broke down some of our favorite attractions and hotspots, beginning with the USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park, where you can tour not only a massive battleship, but a submarine, tanks, and military planes.

Historic homes abound in this area. Our picks are the Bellingrath Gardens and Home (which is an excellent botanic garden in addition to the home), the Conde-Charlotte Museum House, and the Richards-DAR House Museum.

For family fun, check out the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center & IMAX Theater, and the excellent GulfQuest National Maritime Museum, where you can pilot a container ship via a real simulator.

To check out Mobile’s party history, visit the Mobile Carnival Museum to learn all about the Mardis Gras parades and see costumes from kings and queens and revelers.

Finally, we wrapped the week up with a Mother’s Day Champagne Jazz Brunch on the Perdido Queen. But you don’t have to wait until Mother’s day. The family-operated Perdido Queen paddleboat offers a jazz brunch cruise almost every Sunday.

We stayed at the excellent Candlewood Suites Downtown, which is a great extended-style stay within walking distance from so much. Rooms offer a fully-equipped kitchenette, and the front desk will loan you all kinds of small appliances, games, and DVDs.
