On this episode of RV Miles, we have an interview with Katie Larsen, editor-in-chief of go-van.com, about her life as a solo traveler, and how the #vanlife movement has swept the world. We also have some tips for boosting your RV fuel economy and saving some cash. In the news, four big stories: a new National Park, a change to the popular Roadtrippers app, a Jellystone camp-resort that is excluding certain types of RVs, and the sad lay-off of the entire staff of 800 people at the Erwin-Hymer (Roadtrek) plant.

Show Notes

In the news we talked about what looks like the final sad end for Erwin Hymer North America and Roadtrek motorhomes. 800+ employees were laid off this week, as the company was placed in recievership.

We also covered the controversial decision by a Chicago-area Jellystone campground to exclude pop-up RVs and tent camping this year.

Roadtrippers, the fantastic route planning tool has announced that you really won’t be able to use much of its functionality for free anymore – you’ll have to pay an annual fee of $14.95 if you want more than 8 waypoints.

Finally, it’s offical, we have another National Park as the Indiana Dunes National Seashore gets a name change.

After the break, and the answer to last week’s brain teaser, we discussed a few tips and tricks for conserving fuel and saving money on the road.

Then we recapped our time in the Fort Worth/Dallas area, a week that included plenty of cold weather, time with family, and checking out the amazing eSports arena which is part of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers stadiums.

After our final break, Jason spoke with Katie Larsen, editor-in-chief of Go-Van.com about the Van Life movement, life as a solo female traveler and what you can expect to find on Go-Van.com.
